I'm going to analyse "Vanity Kills" by Codeine Velvet Club. The song belongs to the alternative rock genre. The video demonstates characteristics of a rock video, as it shows the band performing their song, and this is usually the focus of a rock video.
One thing i found with the video and the song is there is no connection. It is simply the song being played in a recoding studio in black and white. Some videos that do have a connection between video and lyrics would be "21 Guns" by Green Day, "When you were young" by The Killers and "I write sins not tradegys" by Panic! at the Disco. Each of these use the lyrics to portray a short narative.
There is, however, a relationship between the music and the visuals.Whenever there is an insrument solo, the camera focus' on they member playing that instrument. This is similar to the bands other video "Hollywood", in which the camera cuts in time to the guitar at the start of the chorus.
From this video I get the impreesion the record company is trying to pitch the lead members of the band (Jon Lawler and Lou Hickey) as stars. Lawler is recognisable from his other band The Fratellis, therefore by focusing on him, people who watch the video are familier with the musician, and so they can broaden their audience. The band is being filmed in formal wear, as if to give the viewer the impression they are a classy band.

Music videos-Rock
In the majority of rock music videos at some point you will see the artist performing the song. In a few videos I saw, the band didn't perform the song, however the video followed a narrative based on the song. One example of this type of music video could be "Ole black and blue eyes" by The Fratellis. This video is animated, therefore the band wouldn't be in it. And example of the former would be "21 guns" by Green Day, which also won a few VMAs.

for some reason i can't download youtube videos, but theres the link. Bohemian Rhapsody is the most inluential music video ever, as it was one of the first to break the mould of just live performances being shown on tv. it was unique, and lead to music fans everywhere hailing Queen as one of the truley great bands of the 20'th century.
